On this page you will find the tryouts for the 2008 season as they become known, a list of coaches to contact and some information regarding Select Hockey within the North York Hockey League.

TRYOUTS FOR THE 2008/2009 SEASON: Please note, all players must be registered with West Mall Houseleague to Tryout for Select.
MINOR NOVICE WHITE: Coach Dino Gatto: Sunday September 7th, 5:30p.m., Canlan Ice Sports Etobicoke & Sunday September 21, 6:45 - 7:30p.m., Pinepoint Arena, $10 per player, per tryout.
MINOR NOVICE BLACK: Coach Tom Nickolau: Sunday September 14th & Sunday September 21st, 6:00-6:45p.m., Pinepoint Arena, $10 per player, per tryout.
NOVICE: We have three Select Teams: Silver, Black & White - Friday Sept. 5th - 6:30-8:00p.m., John Booth Arena, $15 per player, OPEN TRYOUT & Friday Sept. 12th - 6:30-8:00p.m., John Booth Arena, $15 per player by invitation only.
MINOR ATOM - Coach Colin Ray - Tuesday September 23 & Tuesday September 29, Centennial Arena, West, 6:00p.m. - 7:00p.m., $10 per player, per tryout.
ATOM - Coach Nick Mastromarco - Saturday September 13 & Saturday September 20, Pinepoint Arena, 7:45p.m. - 8:35p.m., $10 per player, per tryout.
MIDGET SR: Coach Jim MacKiewicz - Tuesday Sept. 9th - 10:00-11:00p.m., Centennial Arena, West, and Sunday, Sept. 28 - 9:15-10:05p.m., Albion Arena, $10 per player, per tryout.
JUVENILE: - Coach Fred Ciufo - Tuesday Sept. 16th & Tuesday Sept. 23rd - 10:00-11:00p.m., Centennial Arena West, $10 per player, per tryout.

Please contact the following coaches or managers if your child is interested in playing Select Hockey with West Mall Lightning.
The additional fees for approximately 25 practices and 25 games with Select usually ranges from $600 to $1200 per player, depending on sponsorship and the number of touranments your team enters. "It's a lot of fun and a lot of ice time, to develop your skills." Your team may or may not have an out of town tournament, with additional fees for your accomodation and transportation.

League Information
Select teams are made up House League players and represent the West Mall Lightning in competitive play against other hockey associations.
The Select teams for the West Mall Minor Hockey Association play in the North York Hockey League. The NYHL is comprised of Select teams, sometimes called Rep. Or All-Star teams, from minor hockey associations and leagues inside and around the greater Toronto area.
Select teams play regularly in the North York Hockey League, as well as in various tournaments throughout the season. Select team members are chosen from the House League teams through try-outs. Try-outs are open to all registered House League players. Players chosen for a Select team must continue to play for their House League team in addition to their Select team.
Registration fees for the Selects are on an individual team basis. The fee is based on the amount or money given by the sponsor to the team and any monies earned in fundraising efforts. This normally includes player insurance charges levied by the Canadian Hockey Association. Registration fees entitle each player to the use of two game jerseys, two pairs of game socks and also assist the association in funding practice ice time. Team jackets, track suits and other Association merchandise will also be made available as each team develops its sponsor and/or fundraising programs. Admission to the games is normally $4.50 per person (14 & under and senior spectators are free).
