CONGRATULATIONS WEST MALL SELECT ATOM TEAM
Congratualtions for winning the Humber Valley Association's select Tournament. The tournament was won in grand fashion winning all five games straight. Westmall has won this tournament only once before since it's inception 25years ago. We have made history! We have also made it into the Etobicoke Guardian. Way to go West Mall Lightning
The West Mall Lightning Minor Bantam "A" Team coached by Peter Reinhardt, Kevin Dobbin, Gord Moffat, Bruce Ambrose and managed by Sandra Tapley had an outstanding year of hockey by winning the Promittere Cup, the West Division and with the biggest prize by beating Ted Reeve Thunder for the GTHL City Championship. It is clear to the coaching staff, that the players had the drive, determination and commitment to accomplish something that very few teams are successful in achieving all in one year, not to mention it is the second year for this team to win the GTHL City Championship.
The Bantam 'A' Team capped off a remarkable 2006/7 season with a resounding victory over the Toronto Aces in the GTHL Championship series. This triumph was accomplished in five games where the Lightning was never seriously challenged after giving up leads late in the first two games - settling for ties. The team then buckled down, played sound hockey at both ends of the ice and reeled off three straight victories. There was no doubt about which the better team was and who wanted the Championship more. The victory was all the sweeter as the Aces had beaten the Lightning in the previous year's finals. Earlier in the play offs, the team had sliced through the Devils, Rangers and regular season champion Sharks in five games each, on the way to an overall playoff record of 13 - 3 - 4: outscoring the opposition 68 - 38. The team finished the regular season in second place with 58 points on a record of 27 - 5 - 4, capped off by a run of 15 straight games without a loss after December 15th.
